Matthew Bibin, a 40-year-old care worker from Derrin Road in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, has an arrest warrant issued after failing to appear for sentencing. District Judge Alana McSorley convicted him of ill-treating a male resident at a local care facility on April 12, 2024. Bibin denied the charge during a contested hearing at Enniskillen Magistrates Court.

Court heard that Bibin punched the resident in the face after the resident elbowed a female colleague in the chest while staff assisted him into bed. The resident's condition caused him to become unsettled at times. Bibin attributed his action to concern for the colleague. Judge McSorley found the colleague's account credible and entered the conviction, noting the resident's vulnerability while in Bibin's care.

The case adjourned for pre-sentence reports, but Bibin did not attend appointments. He left a note with his landlord stating he had to return home. Probation services and police believe he fled the country to assist his family. No bail conditions applied to ensure his court return.

The Northern Ireland Social Care Council imposed an interim suspension order on Bibin on July 10, 2025, three days after his initial court appearance. Defence counsel Ciaran Roddy reported difficulties contacting Bibin ahead of the sentencing hearing.
