Tara McKenzie, 21, from Lough Shore Road in Enniskillen, received 10 penalty points and a 200 pound fine at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday for being in charge of a vehicle while over the alcohol limit. She also faced a separate 200 pound fine for lacking valid insurance.

The incident occurred on December 20, 2025, around 11.15pm on Wellington Road in Enniskillen. Police approached McKenzie in a stationary Audi to check the vehicle's insurance status.

Officers detected an odour of alcohol and confirmed she had no valid insurance policy. A breath test showed 63 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35 microgrammes. She was arrested.

Her defence solicitor, Gary Black, stated that friends had asked her to pick them up from a bar. She entered the bar and accepted a drink. He noted she had renewed her insurance that day, but it activated at 1am the next day, and she failed to verify the details.

District Judge Alana McSorley described the choice as foolish and referenced testimonials confirming McKenzie holds two jobs and maintains a professional work ethic.
