Enniskillen Driver Fined for Drink Driving and Lacking Insurance
Tara McKenzie, 21, from Lough Shore Road in Enniskillen, received fines totalling £400 and 10 penalty points at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday. The penalties followed charges of drink driving and driving without insurance.
Police stopped McKenzie driving a stationary Audi on Wellington Road in Enniskillen at around 11:15pm on December 20, 2025. Officers first checked the vehicle's insurance and noted an odour of alcohol.
A breath test showed 63 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath in McKenzie, exceeding the legal limit of 35 microgrammes. She faced arrest after the test.
Her solicitor stated that friends had requested a lift from a bar that evening and she accepted a drink once inside. He added that her insurance policy activated one minute after midnight that day, leaving a brief gap due to a failure to review policy details.
The court heard that McKenzie holds two jobs requiring her driving licence. District Judge Alana McSorley called the choice unwise and referenced testimonials confirming her hard work across both employments.
