Portadown Defenders Flute Band has bought a vacant hall on Carrickblacker Road in Portadown, County Armagh. The group plans to renovate the property into a community space.

The hall stood empty for years and sustained damage. Renovation work will address safety issues and wear.

Improvements include modernising the interior, enhancing accessibility for people with disabilities and creating space for events and meetings.

The band started a GoFundMe campaign with a 1,000-pound goal. It raised 1,300 pounds to fund maintenance and updates.

Flute bands form part of Northern Ireland's cultural tradition, often linked to summer parades and community gatherings.
