A family support event at the Edgarstown bonfire site in Portadown was postponed on Tuesday because of rain, but speeches at Shillington's Bridge went ahead as planned at 7pm.

The Loyalist Edgarstown Bonfire group announced the postponement on Tuesday afternoon, citing inclement weather and concern for young people expected to attend. The family fun day was to include three bands: Portadown Defenders, Portadown True Blues and Markethill Volunteers Flute. It is now scheduled for Wednesday evening at the same location.

The group said it still planned to show support for Portadown District members who remain on Drumcree Hill due to what it described as a failure by police to secure their lawful return home. It called on the community to gather at Shillington's Bridge at 7pm on Tuesday, where guest speakers would provide updates.

The event was organised in solidarity with 35 Orangemen from Portadown District LOL No 1 who were prevented by police from walking along Garvaghy Road on Sunday morning.

Portadown District adviser Jamie Bryson said communities were organising in support of the group on the hill and argued the men had won the legal right to complete their route for the first time in 28 years. He called for First Minister Michelle O'Neill to be arrested, saying that if she were a unionist or loyalist, she would already have been.

Secretary of State Chris Bryant was expected to return to Northern Ireland on Tuesday for further talks. He met with Garvaghy Road Residents' Coalition spokesperson Breandán Mac Cionnaith on Monday.

Mac Cionnaith told protesters on Garvaghy Road that he believed the British government already had a plan and might make the residents' coalition appear unreasonable to favour the Orange Order.
