A 25-year-old man from Moneymore, County Derry, has been sentenced for threatening and abusive behaviour towards his father.

Fergal Donaghy of Cloneen Drive appeared before the court for an incident on April 19, 2026, in which he shouted abuse at his father while pacing with clenched fists.

The court was told that Donaghy's father went to his son's room to discuss his issues. At that point, the defendant began pacing and shouted that he was going to beat those around him.

Defence counsel Kieran Roddy said no physical harm occurred, characterising the incident as an isolated one on a particular day. Roddy added that Donaghy had issues with alcohol and drugs but was seeking help.

District Judge Suzanne Rice described Donaghy as out of control on the day in question. She noted that a probation report assessed him as having a medium likelihood of reoffending.

Donaghy was sentenced to two years' probation and a three-year restraining order.
