A resurfacing scheme is set to begin on Old Warrenpoint Road in Newry on Monday 12 October, with preparatory works nearing completion.

The Department for Infrastructure announced that resurfacing will last for four weeks, with works from Chapel Hill Road to Greenan Road junction.

During the scheme, a temporary one-way traffic system will be in operation continuously from 8:00am on 12 October to 6:00pm on 8 November 2026.

Northbound traffic will be permitted to travel from the Greenan Road junction along Old Warrenpoint Road towards Greenbank Roundabout. Southbound traffic will be diverted to use the A2 Warrenpoint dual carriageway and turn left back into Old Warrenpoint Road at Forest Hills.

The Department advised that while steps have been taken to accommodate local access, road users should expect some delays and allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity. They are also asked to comply with temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by 8 November 2026. The Department said it will keep the public informed of any changes.
