A 56-year-old man appeared in court on Wednesday charged with explosives and firearms offences following a search of a property in Armagh earlier this week.

Patrick McEnteggert, of Corrigan Court, Irish Street, was brought before District Judge Natasha Fitzsimons at Newry Magistrates’ Court. He had been arrested on Tuesday morning at Corrigan Court.

The charges include making explosives under suspicious circumstances, possessing explosives under suspicious circumstances, possession of firearms or ammunition in suspicious circumstances, and possession of firearms or ammunition without certificate.

Detective Constable Richard Davidson told the court he believed he could connect McEnteggert to all charges. Defence solicitor Jarlath Fields represented the accused.

No bail application was made on Wednesday due to the unavailability of a suitable address. Mr Fields asked for the case to be adjourned until next Tuesday to allow a bail application to be prepared.

Judge Fitzsimons remanded McEnteggert in custody to appear again next week. The Public Prosecution Service will review all charges.
