An 18-year-old from Derry has been remanded in custody after breaching bail conditions imposed in connection with sex offence charges.

Corey McNeily of Irish Street was on bail with a curfew and a requirement to wear an electronic tag.

On September 28, police responding to a report of two men digging through bins found McNeily among them. He was past his curfew and not wearing his tag.

The court was told the owner of the property where McNeily had been bailed to had initially refused to allow the tag to be installed, though she has since changed her mind.

Police said McNeily appeared to be under the influence of drugs and was taken to hospital.

Police objected to bail, citing a risk of reoffending.

Defence barrister Michael Donaghy said no new offences were committed during the breach. He described McNeily as a young man who had been through the care system.

McNeily will appear in court again on October 1.
