A consultation has begun on a proposal to close Knocknagor Primary School in Trillick, County Tyrone, from September 2028. The Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS) is seeking views on the closure.

The school has been part of the local community for 90 years. Local councillor Stephen McCann said Knocknagor is more than a school; it is a close-knit rural school that has supported generations of children and played a central role in community life.

McCann noted that pupils have achieved success including All-Ireland and Ulster titles, showing what can be delivered within a small rural school. He has been contacted by concerned parents, past pupils and residents who want the school to remain open.

West Tyrone MP Órfhlaith Begley has made representations to the Minister for Education and CCMS to meet with school representatives to see the school's role first-hand, according to McCann.

McCann said the educational, social and wider community impact of closure must be fully examined before any final decision is taken. He added that the voice of the Knocknagor community must be heard.
