A Sinn Féin councillor has called for community vigilance after discarded syringes were found in a children's play park and outside a bar in Drumsurn.

Councillor Brenda Chivers said the items were discovered outside O'Connor's Bar and in the play park in the village.

She described the situation as concerning and said it put young people and others at risk.

Chivers urged parents to speak to their children and remind them never to touch or pick up any syringes or needles they might find.

People who come across discarded syringes should report them for safe removal, she said.

She also called on the community to exercise caution and work together to keep children and the wider community safe.
