A local councillor has issued a warning after reports that young children are throwing mud projectiles at passing vehicles in Derry’s Brandywell neighbourhood.

The incidents, which involve children using plastic pipes to launch so-called muck bombs, have been described as extremely dangerous and frightening for drivers. The activity has also caused considerable mess and damaged local green spaces.

The same group of children is also reported to have damaged an old stone wall beside a local monument in May and to have continued gathering at the site at night. The councillor has contacted relevant agencies to secure and repair the wall.

Parents in the area have been urged to ensure their children are not taking part in the behaviour.
