Fóram na nÓg, which supports youth work through the Irish language, held its first-ever conference last week at Hill of The O'Neill in Dungannon, County Tyrone.

Caoimhe Ní Choinn of Fóram na nÓg said the day was very successful, with various groups sharing their own experiences in the sector. Attendees included funders, members, schools and a range of ages.

She highlighted the importance of the location, noting that Hill of The O'Neill has significant Gaelic history, which was central to the decision to hold the conference there.

Talks were given by Irish language leaders from across the country, including Ciarán Mac Giolla Bhéin, Joe Ó Dochartaigh, April Ní hÍr, Eoghan Ó Conghaile and Seán Mac Bradaigh. They shared their own experiences of campaigning in Irish and provided useful tools.

Caoimhe said groups wanted more information about language planning. The organisers emphasised interactive elements and aimed for an inspiring day.

Fóram na nÓg intends to hold another conference next year. In the meantime, it will support the demands and needs of groups in their areas.
