A Kenyan runner set a new course record at the Antrim Coast Half Marathon, which took place in Larne at the weekend.

Isaia Lasoi finished in 58 minutes 26 seconds, ahead of compatriot Daniel Mateiko in second place. The women's race was won by Ethiopia's Germawit Gebrzihair in 1:06:12.

Hiko Tonosa was the fastest Irish competitor, recording 1:02:01 to finish 11th overall.

More than 7,000 people took part. The route started in Larne with a 6-kilometre loop of the town, continued out towards Ballygally, then turned back along the coast to finish near the town tower by the sea.

Local participants included Piarais Mac Alastair from Belfast, Medb Ní Dhulain from Ballyrannell, and Bríd Nig Aoidh from the Creagán area.

Ní Dhulain, completing her first half marathon, crossed the line in 2:06. She said the event was well organised from start to finish and praised the volunteers.

Mac Alastair, who had trained for several months, finished in 1:53. He described the course as flat and scenic, running beside the sea, and said he plans to return next year aiming for a time under 1:50.

Nig Aoidh, completing her third half marathon, finished in 2:20. She noted the strong crowd support in Larne and the favourable weather, with no wind on the coast road.
