A public meeting has been scheduled in Drumquin to discuss proposed energy developments near the village.

The meeting is set for Thursday, September 3 at 7pm at Drumquin Community Centre on the Manse Road.

Amanda Braden, from the No More Windfarms in Drumquin group, said the group has received hundreds of messages of support from the local area and further afield since the meeting was announced. She said residents had previously felt their views were not being considered.

The group wants Dooish and Dunaree hills to remain free of turbines. Braden said six hills around Drumquin already have turbines and that the remaining two should not be developed. She added that adding turbines to those hills could lead to further turbine proposals.

An application for a Battery Energy Storage System in Drumquin is expected to be considered by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council on September 16. A decision on the proposal was deferred when the council discussed it in July.

Two separate wind farm developments have been proposed by ABO Energy and Energia. Each project involves 12 turbines up to 150 metres high near Glenn, Bradan and Glenbane Roads.

The No More Windfarms in Drumquin group is encouraging local people to contact councillors and express their views before the council considers the battery storage application.
