SSE Renewables will hold a community information event for its battery energy storage system project in Derrymeen, County Tyrone. The event takes place at The Cohannon Inn in Dungannon on Thursday, April 9, from 4pm to 7.30pm.

The facility sits near the Tamnamore substation. It offers 200 megawatt-hours of storage capacity to balance electricity demand and supply in Northern Ireland. The system stores power during high renewable generation and releases it to the grid during peak demand.

Residents, businesses and suppliers can attend to meet the project team. They can ask about the construction programme and supply chain opportunities.

Patrick Greene, construction projects director at SSE Renewables, stated that local communities and businesses need chances to learn about the project and its construction. He noted the event provides ways for local suppliers and contractors to get involved.

SSE Renewables appointed Kirby Group Engineering and Sungrow as main contractors. Kirby manages construction and integration. Sungrow provides the battery storage technology.
