Ards and Bangor karate athletes take world championship medals
Amy Adair of Ards and Bangor Mizukara Karate Club has won a gold medal at the WUKF World Karate Championships in Romania. Her clubmate and training partner Levi Kane took silver in the same event, the ladies' wado ryu kata.
Adair had earned silver in that category in 2023. This year she moved up to the top of the podium.
In the ladies' sanbon team rotation kumite, Adair and Kane joined Irish teammate Erin McCole. The trio reached a semi-final against the United States before losing and taking bronze.
Head coach David Brashaw said both athletes have trained with the club since they were children. He described the results as outstanding and said he was proud of both competitors.
Brashaw noted the event was livestreamed worldwide and that many club members watched from home. He thanked fellow Irish coach Martin McCole for help preparing the squad. He said the Irish squad had its most successful world championships and finished high on the medal table.
The club runs karate and tai chi classes in Ards, Holywood and Bangor.
