The Old Fair Day returned to Castle Irvine in Irvinestown, Co Fermanagh, with livestock, vintage machinery and community displays.

Joe Mahon, proprietor of Mahon's Hotel and a key organiser, said the fair began 14 years ago and moved from Main Street to the Castle Irvine estate during the pandemic, providing more space and atmosphere. Stalls, animals and children's activities like sheep shearing, hay-making and donkey foot care were among the attractions. Prizes for the best garden in Irvinestown were presented, and basket-making demonstrations took place.

The festival crowned Alicia Birney as Lady of the Lake. Ms Birney, who works at a family bakery in the town, described the moment as nerve-wracking but said she wanted to encourage fun and stressed the need to address mental health stigma.

Vintage exhibits included a 1963 Fordson Super Dexta tractor restored by Cecil Walker, 81, who has refurbished a dozen tractors over four decades. Willie Wilson, 76, from Trillick, displayed a 100-year-old restored tricycle with an imitation dog in its carrier.

Horse and donkey trading featured prominently. Liam Óg Leonard from Irvinestown offered a white Irish Cob named Lizzie for sale alongside a vintage cart. Martin Trarynor, a farrier originally from the Glens of Antrim who now lives in Letterbreen, said he had attended since the fair began.

Festival chairperson Lisa Wallace said the committee began preparations in February each year. She praised the site's safety and noted the favourable weather encouraged visitors to stay for the day.
