Viable pipe bomb found on Foreglen Road in Dungiven
A viable pipe bomb was discovered on the Foreglen Road in Dungiven on Friday, leading to a security alert and a controlled explosion.
Ammunition Technical Officers attended the scene and carried out the controlled explosion, after which the device was deemed viable. The remnants have been taken for forensic examination.
Councillor McGurk condemned the placement of the device, calling it dangerous and disgraceful. They said the incident caused significant disruption and distress for the local community, and appealed for anyone with information to contact police.
North Area Engagement Chief Inspector Mullan confirmed the alert had ended and thanked the public for their patience. He noted that road closures were necessary for public safety and that the investigation is ongoing.
Police have asked anyone with information to come forward by calling 101, quoting reference number 304 17/07/26, or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously.
