A pipe bomb has been found on a car in the Nelson Drive area of the Waterside in Derry/Londonderry. The device was declared viable and removed for forensic examination.

Residents reported hearing a loud bang around 12.30am on Tuesday. Police officers responding to the scene discovered a car with a smashed window and a pipe bomb-type device left on the windscreen.

Ammunition Technical Officers attended and cordons were put in place for several hours overnight. The cordons were lifted later on Tuesday after the device was taken away.

Police have launched an investigation and are urging anyone with information to come forward. Detectives are particularly keen to hear from those who noticed suspicious activity in the area or who have CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage.
