Carrickfergus Soprano Impresses in Sewing Bee Debut
Emma Morwood, a classical soprano originally from Carrickfergus, has made a strong start on the new series of The Great British Sewing Bee.
Now living in Scotland, Morwood resumed sewing in 2023 and has since created her own clothes rather than buying new garments.
She first learned to sew from her mother as a child and made two prom dresses for herself at age 15. During the pandemic, she produced face coverings from donated fabrics.
On the show's first episode, she constructed a swimsuit and trousers for the Made to Measure challenge. Judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young named it Outfit of the Week.
Morwood said walking the catwalk in her own creation was daunting, even as a performer, because it was new to have something she made put under scrutiny.
The contestants formed a close group during filming, with Morwood describing the experience as a bonding one.
The programme airs on BBC One on Tuesdays at 8pm.
