A 59-year-old Portadown man has appeared in court charged with sexual assault and harassment.

Philip Hamilton, of Westland Road, Portadown, faced two charges when he appeared at Craigavon Magistrates Court on Friday. The charges relate to an alleged sexual assault of a woman on 16 June this year, and harassment of the same woman between 6 June and 25 June.

When asked if he understood the charges, Mr Hamilton indicated that he did.

A prosecuting solicitor told the court a full file in the case is due on 11 August. A police officer confirmed he could connect the defendant to the charges.

Mr Hamilton's solicitor, Philip Reid, said he had no questions for the officer regarding the connection and did not object to an adjournment. The case was adjourned until 14 August.
