Assembly backs seizure powers for scramblers and e-scooters without warning
Police are to be given new powers to seize scrambler bikes and e-scooters without first issuing a warning, after the Assembly backed an amendment to the Justice Bill.
The amendment, proposed by the SDLP with support from the DUP and Alliance Party, allows officers to immediately seize vehicles being used in a way that causes alarm, distress or annoyance.
SDLP representative Mr McGlone said the change strikes the right balance by giving police the tools to intervene while avoiding the unnecessary criminalisation of young people. He welcomed the cross-party support, noting that anti-social behaviour affects communities regardless of background or geography.
