Christopher McCann has retired as principal of St Joseph's Primary School in Carnacaville following 15 years in the role. A retirement Mass was held at the school to mark the occasion.

In a statement, the school highlighted developments undertaken during Mr McCann's tenure.

The school completed a modern extension providing additional classrooms and learning spaces for its pupils.

Mr McCann championed the introduction of the Rainbow Room, a specialised classroom designed to support children with learning difficulties. This allowed the school to better serve the wider community.

A new play park was also installed, intended to aid the physical development of Rainbow Room pupils and offer recreation for all children.

Outside the classroom, Mr McCann coached basketball on Friday afternoons and encouraged student involvement in arts and sports.

The school noted that Mr McCann's legacy endures both in the physical improvements to the premises and in the culture he fostered.
