A 17-year-old golfer from Newtownards will take up a scholarship at an American university in 2027.

Harry O’Hara has committed to Kent State University in Ohio. He is currently a member of Clandeboye Golf Club and plays off a handicap of three. O’Hara is ranked fourth among under-18 golfers in Ireland.

He attends Rockpoint School near Holywood, a specialist golf academy. The school runs the only programme of its kind in Ireland, and O’Hara is part of its elite squad. He made his debut for Ireland at under-16 level in 2023 and has since collected national titles.

Kent State has a record of developing PGA Tour professionals. Its alumni include Ben Curtis, winner of the 2003 Open Championship, and two-time Valero Texas Open champion Corey Conners.
