Lisburn Driver Fined £250 and Given Six Penalty Points After Insurance Mix-Up
A 45-year-old Lisburn man has been fined £250 and handed six penalty points after he was caught driving without valid insurance.
Warren Patterson, whose address was given as Sandymount in Lisburn, appeared before Lisburn Magistrates Court on Thursday June 11. He represented himself.
Police had stopped a Chevrolet Cruze on Ruskin Heights in Lisburn on March 9, 2026, after checks indicated no insurance was in place for the vehicle.
Mr Patterson told officers he believed he was covered. He later attended Lisburn police station and produced an insurance policy, but it was dated from March 16, 2026, a week after the stop.
In court, Mr Patterson explained that a mechanic had told him he was insured to drive the vehicle, which he had borrowed while his own car was undergoing repairs.
Deputy District Judge Philip Mateer imposed the fine and penalty points.
