A 31-year-old Lurgan man has been handed suspended prison sentences for possessing a Class C drug and resisting police, after related assault and domestic abuse charges were dismissed due to the complainant's absence.

Scott Mayne, of Princes Street, had faced six charges at Craigavon Magistrates Court, three of which were common assault allegations involving a woman on separate dates in September 2025. He also faced a domestic abuse charge. District Judge Michael Ranaghan ordered those charges be dismissed when the alleged injured party failed to attend court after being formally called.

Mayne had already entered guilty pleas to resisting police and possessing pregabalin. The prosecution told the court that police attended his property on 24 September 2025 following a dropped 999 call. Officers were admitted by a woman and found Mayne in the living room.

After his arrest, Mayne admitted to having pregabalin, and a subsequent search located the drug in his underwear. As he was being removed from the property, he turned aggressive, forcing police to take him to the ground and apply limb restraints.

Defence counsel Mr Halloran noted that Mayne had already spent time in custody and was subject to active suspended sentences. District Judge Ranaghan acknowledged the early guilty pleas but said Mayne's record was poor and the custody threshold would have been open regardless.

The judge imposed a three-month suspended jail term for resisting police and a two-month concurrent suspended sentence for drug possession, both suspended for 12 months. A destruction order was made for the seized pregabalin.
