New SEN Unit Approved for Millington Primary School in Portadown
Planning permission has been granted for a double modular unit at Millington Primary School on Craigavon Avenue, Portadown, providing dedicated facilities for pupils with special educational needs.
The unit will replace an existing modular classroom in the southeast corner of the school site. It measures 12 metres wide, 26.9 metres long, and 4.7 metres high, covering a 320 square metre area.
Inside, the building will contain two classrooms, a lobby, cleaners’ store, sensory rooms, toilets, a hygiene room, a staff base and a breakout room.
Council planners noted in their report that the development sits within the school complex and is no closer to residential properties than the structure it replaces. They said it will not harm the amenity of neighbouring homes.
Six parking spaces at the rear of the school, unused for many years, will be designated for SEN parking by the Education Authority and accessed from the rear of the site.
The planners concluded the proposal complies with the Strategic Planning Policy Statement for Northern Ireland and all other relevant planning policies.
