Education Minister opens new facilities at Killyman Primary School and advances Roddensvale project
Education Minister Paul Givan has officially opened new facilities at Killyman Primary School in Dungannon. The project involved a two-classroom extension, a dedicated learning space for small group support, additional storage and modern bathroom facilities.
The construction cost was £846,804, with the work delivered in partnership with the Education Authority and McCuskers Building Contractors.
Speaking at the opening, Mr Givan said the investment would enhance the educational experience for pupils and staff at the school for generations to come.
Killyman Primary School principal Deborah Mitchell described the opening as a significant milestone for the entire school community. She said every child deserves to learn in modern, vibrant and fit-for-purpose facilities that help them reach their full potential, and that the project has delivered a first-class school.
Separately, Mr Givan has confirmed that plans for a new school building for Roddensvale in Larne will move forward to the pre-tender phase as part of the Special Educational Needs Capital Investment Programme. The project will create purpose-built accommodation for up to 275 pupils.
Mr Givan made the announcement during a visit to the school, where he said he had seen first-hand the outstanding work staff are doing. He said the new build marks the beginning of an important chapter for the staff, pupils and local community.
Roddensvale School Principal John Madden welcomed the announcement, saying it reflects a shared commitment to ensuring pupils with special educational needs have access to high-quality learning environments that meet current and future needs.
