Inclusive Theatre Company Stage Beyond to Premiere Brecht Adaptation in Derry
Stage Beyond, an inclusive theatre company for performers with learning disabilities, will premiere its adaptation of Bertolt Brecht's The Caucasian Chalk Circle at The Playhouse in Derry on Thursday, June 4, at 7pm.
The production features a cast of around 20 performers from across the North West and is supported by National Lottery funding through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
Director Kate Guelke explained that the company's rehearsal practice of starting with yoga inspired the use of yoga mats as a key visual element in the show.
Artistic Director Dee Conaghan said the cast worked hard and embraced the production's challenges, showing creativity and commitment.
The hour-long production incorporates music, movement, and visual theatre. It tells the story of Grusha, a young woman who protects an abandoned child during war.
After the Derry premiere, the production tours to An Grianán Theatre in Letterkenny on Friday, June 5, and to Hawk's Well Theatre in Sligo on Monday, June 8, where a relaxed performance with free admission will be offered.
Tickets for the Derry show are priced at £10. The Letterkenny performance is €12, and advance booking is advised for the Sligo event.
