140 adults with learning disabilities prepare for Ulster Hall performance
A total of 140 adults with learning disabilities from north, south, east and west Belfast will perform at the Ulster Hall on Sunday 17 May at 19:00 BST.
The production, titled Suitcases and Skies, has been in development since October 2025. Rehearsals took place in four separate locations before the full cast came together for the first time three weeks ago.
Director Ciara McGeown said the logistics of bringing the groups together had been one of the biggest challenges of the project.
Cast member Jamiee-Leigh Tweed, 27, said she had learned new skills and gained confidence through the process. She described meeting new people and taking part in the show as inspirational.
Fellow performer Adam Thompson, 21, said he had enjoyed learning new dances and had contributed artwork used as stage backdrops.
Romi Said from MayWe Events said participants had become more confident as rehearsals progressed and that many who had initially been reluctant to take part had changed their minds.
The show is supported by the Belfast Local Community Action Plan through Peaceplus and the Special EU Programmes Body. Tickets are free and remain available.
