A children's play area in Lurgan Park was closed after a young girl came into contact with faeces on one of the large slides.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening. The child's clothing was removed and disposed of following the contact.

DUP Councillor Peter Haire attended the scene with the park ranger and ordered the immediate closure.

It is not known whether the faeces were left deliberately or by accident.

Council staff will carry out cleaning and sanitisation on Thursday. The park will remain closed during the works.

Members of the public are asked to observe the closure.
