Derry Councillors Pay Tribute to Youth Worker Eamon McLaughlin
Derry and Strabane councillors paid tribute to youth worker Eamon McLaughlin during the May council meeting.
Sinn Féin councillor Christopher Jackson said Mr McLaughlin had been an integral part of youth services at Top of the Hill for many years.
Jackson stated that Mr McLaughlin had worked with St Brecan’s Youth Club, the Whistle Project and Hillcrest, and that his commitment to the Top of the Hill area was unmatched.
Jackson also said Mr McLaughlin had almost single-handedly rebuilt Top of the Hill Celtic, transported players to matches, and nurtured talent.
Deputy Mayor and DUP alderman Niree McMorris said Mr McLaughlin had been recognised for his work with young people in Irish Street and the greater Waterside.
McMorris described him as an ambassador for youth work who was open-minded and respectful to youths from other areas.
People Before Profit councillor Shaun Harkin said Mr McLaughlin’s work had earned respect beyond the Top of the Hill area and that he would be missed by many.
