Eamon McLaughlin, a Waterside native, died on Tuesday morning.

McLaughlin worked for decades as a coach at Top of the Hill Celtic, starting in the 1990s. He trained multiple generations of young players from the area.

Top of the Hill Celtic described McLaughlin as a true gentleman whose dedication shaped the club and touched many families. The club said his passion for grassroots football and his commitment to the community would not be forgotten.

Tristar FC called him a Top of the Hill legend and a proud family man who served as a mentor to many young people. Foyle Harps described him as a true club stalwart who gave much to local football.

All Top of the Hill Celtic training sessions and matches this week have been cancelled.

Top of the Hill Celtic expressed sympathy to McLaughlin's wife Aisling, his family, friends, and all who knew him.
