New parcel charges to apply in Northern Ireland from July
Northern Ireland consumers will face new charges on low-value parcels from July.
The charges include a £2.60 duty and an additional €2 administrative fee.
Retailers including M&S have requested the duty charge.
The charges apply under the Windsor Framework arrangements.
Dr Steve Aiken, Ulster Unionist Windsor Framework spokesperson, stated that the government has remained silent on the impact for Northern Ireland consumers.
Aiken questioned why the charges are being introduced in Northern Ireland ahead of other parts of the UK and asked where the revenue will go.
He said the charges add to the existing effects of the Irish Sea Border on Northern Ireland.
