Funeral held for Lisnaskea traditional singer Tommy McDermott
A funeral mass took place on Wednesday at Holy Cross Church in Lisnaskea for Tommy McDermott, who died at his home on Saturday aged 93.
Mr McDermott, of Macknagh, Lisnaskea, was born on 29 November 1932 in Roslea. He sang at the church for 65 years.
Relatives placed symbols on the altar during the service, including a prayer book, a songbook, a boat, a football and a fiddle.
The football represented his involvement with Roslea Shamrocks and Lisnaskea Emmets. He played on Roslea's championship-winning teams in the 1950s and later served as Lisnaskea club chairman.
Fr Jimmy McPhillips told mourners that Mr McDermott's faith remained constant and that he continued to sing at the church until April this year.
Mr McDermott was married to the late Aggie Mulligan. The couple had seven daughters and two sons.
Relatives joined the service online from overseas.
