Tributes Paid to Tyrone Musician John McMenamin After Death in Portugal
John 'Rodgey' McMenamin, a musician from Aghyaran in Tyrone, died while on holiday in Portugal. He formerly owned The Reel Inn in Donegal Town with his wife Denise.
Current owners of The Reel Inn expressed shock at his passing. They noted his importance to many people and the memories he created at the pub through his efforts.
They extended condolences to his wife Denise, sons, daughters and grandchildren.
West Tyrone MLA Maliosa McHugh said people in Aghyaran and nearby areas would be saddened. McHugh described McMenamin as a musician who played multiple instruments and was known in the traditional music scene. McHugh offered condolences to his friends and family.
Kevin O'Donnell, owner of O'Donnell's Music Shop in Donegal Town, called McMenamin a close friend and influence on the local music scene. O'Donnell stated his legacy in traditional music would continue through The Reel Inn.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
