Regulator Launches Northern Ireland Flexibility Needs Assessment
The Utility Regulator has published an information paper on Northern Ireland's first Flexibility Needs Assessment.
The assessment will examine electricity system flexibility required over the next decade at both system and network levels.
The work forms part of a new EU-wide process to support the transition to a decarbonised electricity system.
The Flexibility Needs Assessment Report will draw on data and analysis from NIE Networks and the System Operator for Northern Ireland.
Stakeholders have been invited to submit views on market barriers affecting non-fossil flexibility and on the role of digitalisation in addressing those barriers.
Responses must be sent by email to Claire O'Kane or Daniel Squires by 3 June 2026.
The regulator will consider all feedback when finalising the report and its conclusions.
