Two Year 12 students have received the first awards under a new bursary scheme in the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area.

Cody Gorman from St John the Baptist’s College and Maria Joice from Portadown College were named as the inaugural recipients.

The Coronation Bursary Scheme provides up to £500 each to young people aged 15-19 who demonstrate resilience, integrity, kindness and ambition.

The awards were presented at Craigavon Civic Centre.

Lord Mayor Alderman Stephen Moutray said the scheme offers financial support for personal and academic development and invited more schools to apply.

Funds can be used for software, books, course equipment, laptops or job-related tools.

The scheme remains open for applications until 5 February 2027.
