Catherine and Sharon Hughes from Omagh will run the Strabane Lifford Half Marathon this Sunday to raise funds for the MSA Trust and the Palliative Care Unit at Omagh Hospital.

The sisters ran the Omagh Half Marathon on March 29 and have collected over £3,700 so far.

Their father John Hughes received a diagnosis of Multiple System Atrophy six years ago.

MSA is a rare incurable brain disorder that affects movement balance and independence.

John Hughes now requires around-the-clock care and uses a wheelchair.

Catherine Hughes stated her father entered palliative care at Omagh Hospital for six weeks after becoming unwell and the staff there saved his life.

She noted initial symptoms included poor mobility low blood pressure and falls before scans confirmed MSA.

John Hughes served 35 years with the Order of Malta including as Regional Director and provided first aid at local sporting and community events.
