A crew from Dundrum Coastal Rowing Club secured first place in the St Ayles Skiff category at the Ocean to City An Rás Mór race in Cork over the weekend.

The event is Ireland's largest multi-craft rowing and paddling race, attracting over 190 craft across different categories this year.

The Dundrum team, rowing their St Ayles Skiff 'Mystic Wave', covered a challenging 22km course that included driving rain at the start, heavy sea swell, strong winds, and bright sunshine at various stages.

Crowds lining the City Stage section cheered as the crew powered home to win their category.

This marks the club's fifth win at the event. Club chairperson Emma O'Neill said the entire club was delighted and proud of the team's achievement.

The prize presentation took place on board the Nao Santa María, a full-scale reproduction of the ship used by Christopher Columbus in 1492 that was visiting the port.

County Down was otherwise well represented, with skiffs from Ardglass and Strangford also completing the race with strong times.
