Residents of Kesh will discuss the future of Mantlin Playing Fields at the Kesh Development Association annual general meeting on Tuesday, May 26.

Local people are invited to attend and share views on proposals for the site. The meeting occurs before a council vote deferred to June.

Democratic Unionist Party Councillor David Mahon supported the deferral at an earlier council meeting this month. He stated the proposal involves selling the fields for housing development. Mahon said the fields have served the Kesh community for generations and belong to its people.

Mahon noted residents had faced confidential council discussions despite community concerns. He described the local response to the public details as overwhelming opposition to losing the open space.

The Western Health and Social Care Trust stated it does not comment on planning proposals outside its remit. A Trust spokesperson said it will engage with relevant partners as appropriate.

A residential care home run by Praxis Care and a nearby childcare facility have criticised the sale attempts. Both use the fields regularly.

Council previously discussed the fields' future behind closed doors. The latest decision was called in for further review.
