Education Minister Paul Givan cut the first sod to mark the start of a £22 million construction project at Glenwood Primary School. The work includes refurbishment of the existing Grade B1 listed building and a new block with ten classrooms, a library and dining facilities.

Construction started in February 2026 and is due to finish in February 2028. Hamilton Architects leads the integrated consultant team, with Bell Contracts Limited as the building contractor.

Paul Givan described the event as a key milestone for the school. He stated that the completed extension and refurbished building will offer modern facilities to support pupil development. Givan praised the school and stakeholders for their efforts in advancing the project from design through planning to construction.

Glenwood Principal Wesley Wright called it a significant day for the school community. Wright noted that the improved facilities will enhance staff provision and result from years of planning and teamwork.
