Mass in Castlederg Marks End of Derry City and Strabane Mayor's Term
A Mass took place at St Patrick’s Church in Castlederg on Sunday to mark the end of Councillor Ruairí McHugh's year as Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council.
The service also recognised community workers and volunteers in the Derg area.
Councillor McHugh called the event one of the most memorable of his term. He noted its special meaning because it occurred in his home community and parish.
Fr Paul Fraser led the Mass. Local young people took a central role in the service.
Members of Castlederg St Eugene’s GAC and St Patrick’s FC provided a guard of honour.
Refreshments followed in the Parish Hall. Attendees continued celebrations there and donated to the mayor's two chosen charities.
Councillor McHugh thanked Fr Fraser, event attendees, those who supplied refreshments, volunteers and charity donors.
