Police responded to a report of a shooting in the Bloomfield Road area of Bangor, County Down, at around 10:40pm on Tuesday, May 12. A man received a gunshot wound to his leg. Officers and Northern Ireland Ambulance Service personnel attended the scene. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment.

Detective Sergeant Gray stated the injuries are severe but not life-threatening. He indicated the man faces lasting physical and emotional trauma. Gray noted the attack caused fear and disruption in the local community.

North Down DUP MLA Peter Martin condemned the violence. Bangor Central DUP Councillor Alistair Cathcart called it a barbaric act in a quiet residential area.
