Rats Spotted Near Lisburn Park Before Mayor's Carnival
Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council environment committee heard concerns this week about rodents at Wallace Park. The issue arose ahead of the annual Mayor’s Carnival Parade and Family Fun Day on Saturday, May 9.
SDLP Councillor Pat Catney raised the matter in chambers. He noted reports of rats near the railway banks at the park. Constituents told him rats appeared unafraid. Funfair rides were already in place for the event.
Catney called for action to ensure the area stayed clean. He described it as a public health matter. A council officer acknowledged the concerns.
Mayor Alderman Amanda Grehan stated council officers responded immediately to the complaint. She expressed confidence in the pest control team.
The event features a parade starting at 1pm from Lagan Valley Island civic centre. Wallace Park hosts the Family Fun Day. The park closes to the public at 9pm on Thursday, May 7, and reopens at noon on May 9.
