The Law Society of Northern Ireland has released guidance on the responsible use of artificial intelligence for solicitors and support staff. The document was developed by the society's Law Tech Group.

Research shows that 89% of legal professionals in the UK and Ireland, including Northern Ireland, use AI tools to some extent. Seventy percent adopted them within the past year.

Angela Brady, chair of the Law Tech Group, stated that the guidance addresses effective, responsible use of AI in line with professional obligations. Jude Copeland, chair of the Emerging Technologies Sub-Group, noted that AI provides efficiencies for solicitors, staff, and clients but cannot replace solicitors' skills and empathy.

The Law Society serves as the professional body for solicitors in Northern Ireland. The guidance aims to assist those currently using or planning to use AI in professional work.
