DfI Clears Drainage at Turf Lodge Shops After Repeated Flooding
Department for Infrastructure contractors carried out drainage works at the Turf Lodge shops on Monagh Road in West Belfast last week. The effort followed repeated flooding over recent weeks that blocked access to premises and reduced customer footfall during heavy rain.
Local businesses reported challenges reaching their shops and operating normally due to the water buildup. Parts of the area became inaccessible at times.
West Belfast MLA Aisling Reilly visited the shops after the flooding to meet with business owners. She described the impact on trade and daily operations as frustrating for traders and customers seeking safe access.
Reilly and Cllr Micheal Donnelly contacted the Department for Infrastructure about the issue. Reilly stated that the contractors' work must prevent future flooding and pledged continued discussions with the department.
Traders welcomed the drainage improvements and expressed hope that they will stop further incidents.
