Fermanagh Pharmacist Raises Over £6,000 for Marie Curie via Belfast Marathon
Abigail Greene, a pharmacist from Fermanagh, finished the Belfast Marathon to raise funds for Marie Curie. The charity offers end-of-life care services. She collected £6,383 so far, with more donations incoming.
Greene works at the South West Acute Hospital in Fermanagh. She plays for Derrygonnelly Harps. Her mother Elizabeth Greene died in 2024 after cancer treatment. Elizabeth received Marie Curie care in her final hours.
Greene trained for 16 weeks. She scheduled runs around work shifts. Colleagues from the hospital joined her for after-work runs. Friends and Derrygonnelly Harps teammates provided support. Her father Anthony accompanied her on long weekend runs.
During the race Greene aimed to complete the distance. She found the second half challenging. She felt pride and emotion at the finish line.
Greene stated that the care her mother received helped her family in a difficult period. She called her mother family-oriented, hardworking and kind.
