Richard Cooper Reports High Confidence After BMW Tests for North West 200
Richard Cooper, a seven-time winner at the North West 200, completed initial test sessions on a BMW M1000RR at Bishopscourt and Kirkistown earlier this week. The 43-year-old rider from Nottingham rides for the SMS Nicholl Oils team.
Cooper described the team as very happy with the Superstock-spec bike after the tests. He noted the machine's speed and advanced electronics. This marks his return to 1000cc bikes since 2022.
The rider adapted quickly to the bike's performance after smaller machines. He felt comfortable despite the power increase.
Cooper plans to enter both Superstock and Superbike races at the North West 200, scheduled for May 4 to 9 in Portrush. Superstock remains his primary focus.
He intends to compete in Superbike races if conditions allow competitiveness. The team prioritizes events where the package performs best.
